Biography:
From BMXing, Dirt Biking, and Karting to
the Derek Daly Racing Academy, this Oshkosh, WI native is
now focused on achieving his goal of winning at the top levels
of motorsports.

In 2002, Chris competed in his first season
of car racing. He drove in the Skip Barber Midwest Regional
Championship where he had several podium finishes and was
invited to drive in the 2003 Formula Dodge National Championship.
During the 2002-2003 off-season, Chris developed his web site,
ChrisPrey.com, and created other promotional materials such
as a CD-ROM and informative brochure highlighting sponsorship
benefits, as well as community involvement activities.
In
the 2003 Formula Dodge National Championship he placed 12th
overall and posted several Top-10 finishes including 1 podium
result in this highly competitive series. After the season,
Chris competed in the U.S. Championship Run-Off where he finished
4th and was the winner of his age bracket earning himself
a valuable scholarship. He followed up his Run-Off performance
by driving a 2 day Test Session in the Reynard 98E (Barber
Dodge Pro Series racecar).
With
the knowledge, confidence, and momentum Chris gained from
this and several Skip Barber Winter Series wins and track
records, he expected to be a major contender to win the 2004
Formula Dodge National Championship, and was. After a pressure-packed
season, his speed and consistency showed in the series' results
with 1 win, 6 podiums, 11 top 5's, and never finishing out
of the top 10 in all 14 races. Chris completed every lap of
every race and took the championship points battle down to
the final event, where he came up just short resulting in
a 3rd place overall finish.
Chris created the opportunity to test with Sam Schmidt Motorsports in the Menard's Infiniti Pro Series racecar in June of 2004 at the 1.5 mile Kentucky Speedway. He successfully completed the IRL's licensing test and got his first taste of oval experience at 185+ mph.
In
the 2004-2005 off-season, Chris took his game to a different
level as he went back to racing's roots and purchased a 125cc
Birel/Honda shifter kart. The move was intended to create
a cost-effective means of keeping his skills honed and sharp
while getting valuable seat time in a competitive atmosphere.
His focus on winning races lead to him becoming USA International
Raceway's '05 Shifter Kart Class Champion, and the 100 Lap
Endurance Race Overall Co-Champion. It also helped him build
new relationships and networking opportunities in the karting
community.
Chris stayed focused on his car racing
career in 2005 by signing with Jensen Motorsport to compete
at the Road America 500 event in Elkhart Lake, WI where he
raced in the Toyota Atlantic Championship. A mistake on his
hot lap in qualifying turned a 3rd place starting grid position
into 8th. Showing a very strong race pace, Chris passed the
eventual series champion before a mechanical DNF brought his
race to an end.
Chris worked hard in conjunction with the
Gehl Company to put together a racing program that would promote
their agricultural and compact construction equipment both
on-track with product demonstrations throughout the race weekend
and off-track with: the creation of promotional materials
in the lead up to the race; a driver Q&A session during
the event in the company suite; full access to the car and
team in the paddock area for company guests; and in event
preceding newspaper articles along with their follow-up interviews.
Unable to secure sponsorship for a Champ
Car Atlantic drive in '06, Chris decided to build a SCCA National
Competition Spec Miata so that he could cost-effectively race
in a highly competitive environment. With help from engineer/mechanics
Sean Bray and Josh Daniels, they built a front-running racecar
in 3 short spring months.
To continue building his ability to quickly
adapt to any track layout and vehicle he gets behind the wheel
of, Chris continues to co-drive a 90' Honda Civic Si, 88'
Mazda RX-7, and a 88' Ford Mustang GT in the Fox Valley Sports
Car Club's Autocross Division.
The 06' season consisted of large amounts
of seat time in the Spec Miata, an IRL Stars of Karting race
weekend, Autocrossing, and an Endurance Karting Race. The
Spec Miata brought about and taught many lessons over the
course of the season. A Central Division Championship result
of 8th and a charge to 20th place at the SCCA's National Championship
Run-Offs were the culmination of massive effort and determination.
1st time in a new kart, team, and series meant some set-up
sorting issues during the IRL Stars of Karting race weekend.
Much was accomplished during the event and shown with competitive
finishes of 25th & 23rd in a 44 kart field. The season
closed on a high note by successfully repeating as the shifter
kart class co-champion of the USA International Raceway 100
Lap Endurance Race.
07' saw a continued focus on the SCCA's Central Division Spec Miata National events and its Championship. Many long overdue parts and pieces of alignment equipment were accrued during the off-season to help in chasing the ever elusive perfect setup on the car and thus consistently made it a staple at or near the front of the grid all year. The end result was a season that saw pole positions, fastest laps, and podium finishes which eventually added up to a 2nd place Championship result and another trip to the SCCA National Championship Run-Offs. An invitation to be a contestant on Speed Channel's racing reality show "Setup" Season 2 came as a welcomed suprise when his application was accepted that Fall. After spending a month out in LA that saw him run quickest in the show's opening shifter kart competition, and thereafter, consistently proving the fastest driver in the Pontiac Solstice GXP by taking multiple race wins, Chris emerged as the show's Overall Winner. This victory earned him a $100,000 career enhancement prize and a test of the Pontiac GXP.R which races in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series GT Class.
Away from the racetrack, Chris enjoys playing
golf, basketball, and competing in an indoor flag football
league. He is also a huge Green Bay Packer fan and a supporter
of all Wisconsin sports teams. He also spends down time volunteering
in the community, video gaming, studying racing, and mixing
it with the ladies.
